About this project

The client made contact expressing aspirations for a large dance floor, initially thinking it could be undergound. With further exploration, considering options, discussing cost the client instructed Seth Handley architect to design a six metre rear extension that incorporated the rear of the existing house. Proposals evolved while attempting to take the neighbours with us, this was achieved by incorporating a sedum roof on the 6m ground floor rear extension. The extension was to look like the rear garden when viewed from first floor windows. Sedum also turned out to be the client's preferred roof finish. It was the client's desire to have a uniform smooth floor to dance upon, various finishes were considered the preferred design was a seamless Terrazzo finish with under floor heating. The client also preferred a shallow spiral wine cellar which moved and increased in depth at tender stage.

The client carefully chose the finish they preferred for the kitchen furniture including appliances. The design also included our re-arranging the ground floor to accommodate separate sanitary accommodation from a reduced size utility room.

The client had realistic and accurate expectations concerning construction cost and when a quote came in £2k less than their expectated cost this allowed the project to move seamlessly into the construction phase. We had the pleasure of taking the client to see similar projects of the builder, at which point the client opted to administer the contract with the builder directly.
